We’re surrounded by advertising everywhere we go – on our smartphones, on our TVs, on our radios… the list goes on. The messaging changes from advert to advert but the aim of each one is to prompt action of some kind.

The cynical amongst us wonder if it’s right to push people towards a life of consumerism, while others suggest that advertising is necessary to inform people about the options available to them. Despite conflicting opinions on the matter, advertising remains a billion dollar industry – and it helpfully keeps most of us reading this in a job…

In recent weeks, we’ve explored online ad formats and whether users engage with them, but we also wanted to know what the public think about advertising in general and its influence.
